After crocheting that poncho last week, I wanted to try another new patter that could be worn in spring or summer. What about a lightweight shawl?

This Lion Brand yarn spoke to me immediately! I mean, all the colors were screaming my name on Lion’s website!
You know I couldn’t just by one yarn cake – I bought seven! I don’t know if they’ll all be made into shawls or not. We’ll see.
I love how these Mandala cake colors are all named after fictional fantasy characters, too! I originally picked out six colors, but I had to go back for the color named Pegasus.
But Gnome is the first cake I decided to crochet with. It’s bold and full of rainbows! I couldn’t wait to see how it worked up color-wise into a shawl.
I spent about 20 minutes on YouTube looking for a simple shawl pattern – something I could learn quickly and get lost in. You know that feeling when muscle memory takes over and time just flies as you crochet? That’s what I was looking for.
I decided to use this pattern by Hooked by Robin called the Crochet Eyelet Triangle Shawl. Feel free to watch her tutorial and make a shawl with me!
The Mandala Bonus cake has 1,181 yards of yarn. I was crossing my fingers that one cake would be enough for this shawl.
Yeti, my curious cat, didn’t care about the color or yardage, as long as he could cuddle up next to the yarn while I crocheted. He was too cute to pass up on this photo opportunity.
Because this pattern starts in the middle, where you add rows to the triangle to make the shawl grow, it seems to work up fast. By the time I got to the orange and hot pink, I thought those colors would never end! I found myself praying for the purple yarn to appear, signaling I was nearly done.
I crocheted in bed, on the couch, on the loveseat – this project was so calming to make that I constantly had it in my hands.
This patter is a two row repeat, which was super easy to remember.
Honestly, it wasn’t that bad. I took me four days to make this shawl, a couple hours at a time. Because of my nerve damage, which is now creeping its way into my fingers, I take lots of breaks to make sure my hands are ready for the next round of crafting.
And did I mention how soft and lightweight this shawl turned out to be?!? I need to make one for myself now, too.
Project Rainbow Summer Shawl cost $16 in materials. Like I mentioned before, I don’t keep track of time projects take me to finish. If I had to guess, though, it probably took me around six hours to finish.
I listed this shawl on Etsy for $54.95.
I don’t usually model my items, but this one was so loud and beautiful that I had to try it on for size. Speaking of size, I love that this shawl pattern (or shawls in general) are size-inclusive.
A big THANK YOU to Hooked by Robin for putting this crochet tutorial on YouTube! Yes, I think I’ve already decided that these Lion Brand Mandala Bonus cakes will mostly be made into shawls. They hold the perfect amount of yarn, which cuts down on waste, and the colors are so eye-catching.
